Charlaine was called to the Utter Bar of England & Wales and commenced her legal career at Des Voeux Chambers in Hong Kong before being admitted to the High Court of Malaya in 2012. She is a Partner at Raja, Darryl & Loh in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A substantial aspect of her practice centres on medicolegal and dentolegal work which include representing medical and dental practitioners in civil litigation, professional disciplinary proceedings and regulatory investigations before various professional councils and tribunals. Notably, she was part of the team that successfully defended a series of landmark appeals before the Federal Court, Malaysia’s apex court, which clarified key issues surrounding a doctor’s duty to diagnose and treat and advise on risks. She is also part of the team that recently obtained leave to appeal to the Federal Court on novel and important questions of law concerning causation, aggravated damages and indemnity claims by private hospitals against medical practitioners. Beyond her litigation practice, Charlaine is an active contributor to legal scholarship and professional education. She has co-authored several publications on medical negligence, digital healthcare and healthcare enforcement in Malaysia. She regularly delivers guest lectures on medicolegal and dentolegal topics at both public and private universities and has presented at lectures and conferences throughout Malaysia, ASEAN, Hong Kong and UK.
