Dato’ Indrani Thuraisingham is a qualified lawyer and seasoned consumer advocate with more than 30 years of service to consumer associations in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region since 1995. As the current Vice President and Legal Advisor of the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA) - Malaysia's national umbrella consumer body, she plays a pivotal role in promoting consumer protection across a wide range of issues. Her international posting as Head of the Office for Consumers International (CI) Asia Pacific, the global umbrella membership organisation for consumer associations worldwide, enabled her to lead more than 55 members across 25 countries from 2008 to 2020, and that vast experience and networks has now positioned her to continue to play a role in the ASEAN consumer movement. She represents FOMCA as the Co-Chair of the Malaysian CSO SDG Alliance (MCSA), a national network of more than 200 diverse organisations working across the 17 SDGs. MCSA is a strategic partner in the government’s SDG implementation and monitoring, holding an institutionalised role as the Chair of the JKK CSO within the government's National SDG Governance Structure, participating in technical meetings right up to the SDG Council, which is chaired by the Prime Minister. Indrani also currently holds an honorary CEO position at the National Consumer Complaints Centre, FOMCA’s sister organisation, which mediates complaints between consumers and businesses. She also serves as the Deputy President of the Education and Research Association for Consumers (ERA Consumer), which focuses on building resilient communities at the grassroots level.
