Dato’ Dr S. Mahendra Raj is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and the Medical Director of Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He graduated in medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1982 and trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology in Glasgow. His career has encompassed clinical practice, research and teaching. He was awarded a doctorate degree by the University of Glasgow for research on intestinal helminthiasis, has published widely in scientific journals and has been involved in efforts to encourage and facilitate medical research in the private sector. He is a Past president of the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and currently chairs the National Specialty Subcommittee (Evaluation) for Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has been an advocate of the concept of value driven outcome in healthcare and has an interest in exploring strategies in healthcare sustainability with particular reference to the private sector.
